Golf Rival gives all players an unlimited amount of normal, white balls. In essence you get unlimited lives for free in Golf Rival.

Apart from the normal, white ball, Golf Rival features special balls. You can access your balls inventory by selecting the bag icon on the home screen and then select the Ball section.

There are five different named properties for special balls; these are balls that combine two or three specific properties.

Ball properties

Five named properties exist for special balls:

  • Jump,
  • Stop,
  • Wind Resistance,
  • Windward, and
  • Power.

Jump and Stop

Jump and Stop respectively increase and reduce ball elasticity.

Effects:

  • A ball with the Jump property will bounce further than a normal ball.
  • A ball with the Stop property will bounce less than a normal ball.

Increases ball elasticity by 120%
Single property ball: Kangaroo.
The Earl ball rewarded in Kingdom has the same property.
Several dual and triple properties balls combine this property with other properties.

Increases ball elasticity by 60%
Not offered as a single property ball, but two dual properties balls, Eye and Champion, and one triple properties ball configuration combine this property with other properties.

Reduces ball elasticity by 25%
Not offered as a single property ball, but one dual properties ball, Aegis, and one triple properties ball, Bells, combine this property with Wind Resistance ☆.

Reduces ball elasticity by 50%
Single property ball: Iron Ball.
Several dual and triple properties balls combine this property with other properties.

Reduces ball elasticity by 75%
Not offered as a single property ball, but triple properties balls configuration combine this property with Wind Resistance ☆ and Power ☆☆☆.
Given the very short bounce of these balls they are sometimes referred to as “velcro stoppers”.

Wind Resistance and Windward

Wind Resistance and Windward respectively reduce and increase the wind level.

Reduces wind effect by 60%
Not offered as a single property ball, but available in five triple properties ball configurations.
When a ball with Wind Resistance ☆☆☆ is used with either Bat Wings or Cardinals, wind is eliminated altogether.
Hence, such a ball is often colloquially referred to as a “zero-wind ball” although it does not technically reduce wind by 100% in itself.

Reduces wind effect by 40%
Single property ball: Bat.
Four dual and triple properties ball configurations combine this property with other properties.

Reduces wind effect by 20%
Not offered as a single property ball, but two dual properties balls, Eye and Aegis, and three triple properties ball configurations combine this property with other properties.

Increases wind effect by 20%
Not offered as a single property ball, but one dual properties ball, Champion, combine this property with Jump ☆.

Increases wind effect by 40%
Single property ball: Dandelion.
One dual properties ball, Turkey, and two triple properties ball configurations combine this property with other properties.

Increases wind effect by 60%
Not offered as a single property ball, but two triple properties ball configurations combine this property with other properties.

Power

The Power property superseded the Debuff property in February 2020.

It retains the three levels of debuff reduction by 25%, 50%, and 100%, combining these with three levels of added power: 2%, 4%, and 6%.

“Debuff” is a negative effect that occurs when the ball lands in the rough and in bunkers: it shortens the shot distance with a certain percentage.

Increases the power of a club with up to 2% and reduces debuff by 25%
Not offered as a single property ball, but available in the two triple properties balls: Shark and Marquis.

Increases the power of a club with up to 4% and reduces debuff by 50%
Single property ball: Energy Beam. This property is also available in six triple properties balls configurations.

The description of Power ☆☆ as “reduces debuff by 50%” is somewhat misleading
Energy Beam and other balls with the Power ☆☆ property will remove debuff entirely on rough patches coded with -9% ground debuff values and above.
On patches coded with -10% and below, Power ☆☆ will reduce debuff by 50%.

Increases the power of a club with up to 6% and reduces debuff by 100%
Single property ball: Energy Storm.
This property is also available in five triple properties ball configurations.

The extra 2, 4, and 6% power are not fixed values based on a club’s power value (maximum carry), but is calculated on the actual carry being used, and is only shown in top view when the carry is above a certain distance.

Numerical values

Since February 2020, ball properties can be displayed as numerical values.

Select the golf bag. 2. Select the “ball” tab. 3. Tick the box …

When you tap on the orange exclamation mark next to the checkbox, you will see the pop-up screen to the right summarizing what the values mean.

The first value can range from -3 to 3, and indicates the Stop/Jump properties.

  • -3 = Stop ☆☆☆
  • -2 = Stop ☆☆
  • -1 = Stop ☆
  • 0 = not present
  • 1 = Jump ☆
  • 2 = Jump ☆☆
  • 3 = Jump ☆☆☆ (theoretical)

The second value can range from -3 to 3, and indicates the Wind Resistance/Windward properties.

  • -3 = Wind Resistance ☆☆☆
  • -2 = Wind Resistance ☆☆
  • -1 = Wind Resistance ☆
  • 0 = not present
  • 1 = Windward ☆
  • 2 = Windward ☆☆
  • 3 = Windward ☆☆☆

The third value can range from 0 to 3, and indicates the Power property.

  • 0 = not present
  • 1 = Power ☆
  • 2 = Power ☆☆
  • 3 = Power ☆☆☆”

Numerical values for ball properties can also be displayed in the in-game club and ball selector window, see image to the right.

Single property special balls

Six different single property special balls are available in the shop.

They are also given as gifts and rewards in chests won in Tournament and Kingdom, as rewards for ranking up in Kingdom, and as Quest Rewards, Free Quest Rewards and Bonus Quest Rewards in a Challenge Season.

  • Kangaroo: Jump ☆☆ (increases ball elasticity by 120%)
  • Iron Ball: Stop ☆☆ (reduces ball elasticity by 50%)
  • Bat: Wind Resistance ☆☆ (reduces wind effect by 40%)
  • Dandelion: Windward ☆☆ (increases wind effect by 40%)
  • Energy Beam: Power ☆☆ (increases power by up to 4%, reduces debuff by 50%)
  • Energy Storm: Power ☆☆☆ (increases power by up to 6%, reduces debuff by 100%)

Note:
Energy Beam eliminates debuff entirely on rough patches coded with -5%, -6%, -7%, -8%, and -9% ground debuff values.

Dual properties special balls

Dual properties special balls are normally given as Free Quest Rewards and Bonus Quest Rewards.

Triple properties special balls

Triple properties special balls are sold for cash in the shop normally every Friday for a three day period as part of different “ball deals” where you get (a) a certain chest, (b) a certain amount of gems, and (c) a certain amount of balls.

Triple properties special balls are given as Free Quest Rewards and Bonus Quest Rewards in a limited number, and occasionally as a gift after a game update.

Three of the four reward balls in Kingdom are technically triple properties special balls, see section “Kingdom balls” below.

FAQ

Q: How come some players have hundreds of special balls?

A: Some players prefer to play with the white ball. If such a player has been playing daily for an extended period of time, it is common that he/she has amassed a lot of special balls.

Q: Some players have special balls, and a lot of them, that I don’t see in the shop. Where do I get these balls?

A: You are likely talking about triple properties special balls. A limited number of these are often given as Free Quest Rewards and Bonus Quest Rewards in a Challenge Season. Players with a lot of them have supported the game by buying the weekly ball deals.
